Hunger Action Month: Making a World of Difference

As we commemorate Hunger Action Month, statistics shared by the USANA Foundation are sobering. Nearly 10 percent of the global population is going hungry. About 100 million North Americans and more than 1.8 billion people in the Asia-Pacific region are food insecure.

Food insecurity — experiencing uncertain access to adequate, nutritious food — is a global crisis.

“Every person should have access to secure sources of quality, nutritious food,” the USANA Foundation wrote in a recent article. “This principle is at the core of everything we do at the USANA Foundation and drives us to reach every food-insecure community possible.”

Each September, we recognize Hunger Action Month. It’s a time to raise awareness and confront hunger globally and within our communities.

Hunger Action Month: Striving to End Malnutrition

For over a decade, the USANA Foundation has worked to end malnutrition by developing communities built around sustainable and nutritious food sources (I’m fortunate to have participated in a recent humanitarian trip).

The USANA Foundation’s Garden Tower program has provided millions of meals to those in desperate need. For $20, you can provide a family with a Garden Tower and all the materials needed to grow sustainable food for years. Here’s where you can donate a garden tower.

As many of you know, the Foundation’s operating expenses are covered by USANA Health Sciences. That means every dollar donated to the Foundation goes directly to those who need it most.

Thank you to the many donors, volunteers, and global partners who are making a positive impact as we fight to end malnutrition and food insecurity.

If you’re not yet involved, I invite you to learn more about the USANA Foundation to see how you can become part of a truly incredible organization.

The Power of ‘I See You. I Hear You. I Love You.’ During Suicide Prevention Month

As we navigate through September, National Suicide Prevention Month stands as a moving reminder of the power of connection and understanding. The simple yet profound statements “I see you. I hear you. I love you,” have the capacity to significantly impact mental health and emotional well-being.

How often do we pause in our busy lives to truly acknowledge someone? To see them for who they are, to hear their unspoken struggles, and to love them unconditionally? These phrases are not just words; they are lifelines that can foster deep connection and offer genuine support to those who may be silently battling inner demons.

The Power of Connection

Consider the story of my friend, a mother who saw her teen daughter’s stress and frustration. Intuitively, she got face-to-face with her daughter and said, “I see you. I hear you. I love you.”

This simple acknowledgment became a turning point for the teen. It helped her feel Mom actually cared, that she wasn’t invisible, and that she was in a safe place to be herself.

That humble experience is a testament to the transformative power of these affirmations. In a world where mental health struggles are often stigmatized or misunderstood, acknowledging someone’s presence and experience can create a safe space for open dialogue. It signals that it’s okay to express feelings and that support is available. This is critical during National Suicide Prevention Month, a time when raising awareness and providing resources is paramount.

Creating a Safe Space

The statements “I see you. I hear you. I love you.” build a foundation of trust and empathy. They tell someone that they are not alone and that their feelings are valid. This can be especially vital for those who are contemplating suicide, as feelings of isolation and invisibility are common.

Remember, asking someone if they are okay or if they need to talk can make a world of difference. It might just be the first step towards them seeking help and healing.

Awareness and Resources

Awareness around suicide prevention is crucial. Understanding the signs of distress and knowing how to offer support can save lives. Organizations like the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (988) and Promise2Live.org are invaluable resources for hope, help, and healing. Sharing these resources with friends and family can ensure that support is just a call or text away.

A Call to Action

During National Suicide Prevention Month, let’s commit to taking action. Reach out to someone you care about today. Use these powerful affirmations to bridge the gap of silence that may exist. “I see you. I hear you. I love you.” Small gestures like these can lead to significant changes in someone’s life.

Ultimately, it’s about creating a world where everyone feels seen, heard, and loved. Let’s make a collective effort to support each other, to stand together against the silence, and to foster a community where mental health is prioritized and respected. Your words have power—please use them wisely, genuinely, and with compassion.

Successful Entrepreneurs Possess These 3 Key Traits

Entrepreneurs are critical for driving innovation, economic growth, and stability. Entrepreneurs are the lifeblood of today’s economy. Their courage to take risks, ability to innovate, and unwavering determination drive progress and create opportunities across industries.

Achieving success is not always an easy road. Years ago, my business partner and I gambled our future on a business pitch in Texas to a major U.S. retailer. We faced a crushing rejection by their top executives, but that very setback became the springboard for our thriving video production company going forward.

At that moment, I discovered that persistent determination is the hallmark of leaders.

The winning entrepreneur turns setbacks into stepping stones, using every failure as fuel for success. They hone their skills and adapt to new challenges. They cultivate resilience and maintain an unwavering focus in the face of rejection.

Celebrate Entrepreneurs | Kevin Guest3 Key Traits of Successful Entrepreneurs

Over the years, I’ve identified many attributes common in successful entrepreneurs. Below are three key traits:

  1. Innovative Thinking: Entrepreneurs must think outside the box and constantly seek new ways to solve problems. This creative approach is essential in developing unique products or services that stand out in a competitive market.
  2. Resilience: The path of entrepreneurship is fraught with challenges. Successful entrepreneurs demonstrate resilience by bouncing back from setbacks and learning from failures. Staying determined is an important trait that moves you forward to success despite obstacles.
  3. Strong Communication Skills: Effective communication is crucial for entrepreneurs. It helps them build relationships and gain customer trust. When you master communications, you can convey your vision to investors and stakeholders. You inspire others. I’ve learned that clear communication is a trademark of successful business leadership.

I shared these thoughts in a news release published on Sept. 3, 2024.
