USANA Celebrates 30 Years

Throughout my life, I’ve been fortunate to meet many great people. One of the greatest helped shape the last 30 years. Dr. Myron Wentz, the founder of USANA, created a path that I’m grateful I followed.

In some ways, I can’t believe it’s been 30 years since I hitched my wagon to Dr. Wentz and this great company. Where did the time go? Yet, I smile each time I think about the longevity and the tremendous impact USANA has had on so many lives around the world.

USANA is preparing to celebrate its 30th anniversary at our Global Convention. It reminds me why we’re all here.

We’re here to create the Healthiest Family on Earth.

Our focus remains consistent, as it has for three decades. This notion of the Healthiest Family on Earth continues to be relevant and important. I’m sure 30 years from now, the idea of health — physical, emotional, spiritual — will be even more relevant than it is today.

A Global Celebration

For the first time in three years, the USANA Family plans to gather in Salt Lake City to celebrate. The 30th Anniversary Global Convention is scheduled for Aug. 17-20. It’s an event to celebrate you and all the wonderful people who make USANA what it is.

Create memories to last a lifetime as we recognize you and everything you’ve achieved. Power your entrepreneurial mindset with engaging workshops, energizing speakers, and an electrifying party three decades in the making.

This year’s global convention is positioned as a hybrid event, which means there are in-person and virtual elements.

Health and safety are paramount. I encourage you to carefully consider your own circumstances and select the ticket option that works best for you (here are answers to several common questions). The online component no doubt will be outstanding.

Yet, as the global USANA Family prepares to meet in person for the first time in three years at an event three decades in the making… Well, let’s just say the USANA 30th Anniversary Global Convention is poised to be an event unlike any other.

USANA and Culture

As a side note… Recently, I’ve written about corporate culture and how I believe it’s a differentiator for USANA. It’s one reason we’ve been around 30 years — and I believe it’s why we’re just getting started.

Aligning personal values with your employer’s culture brings a peaceful sense of harmony and strengthens teams. If you missed my thoughts on this notion, I invite you to read the full article.

Asia Pacific Virtual Convention: A Spectacular Show

In a way, last month’s Asia Pacific Virtual Convention (APVC) kicked off a year-long celebration. Since 1992, USANA’s worked to create The Healthiest Family on Earth. And now, as the company commemorates 30 years, we’re laser-focused on that global mission.

“Rather than treating the symptoms of poor health, I wanted to be part of the solution,” Dr. Myron Wentz, USANA Founder, said in his opening remarks. “Our vision is to change lives for the better. The vision of yesterday serves as a path for the future.”

And that’s what we continue to focus on at USANA as we look to the next 30 years and beyond.

An Electric Atmosphere

Though we couldn’t meet in person for APVC, I could feel the energy from health entrepreneurs who tuned in virtually. Thank you to everyone who made the event special.

For those who invested in themselves, I hope you found it as motivational and inspirational as I did. From the kickoff “Wake & Shake” segment to the Future Lab to the leadership discussions to the phenomenal keynotes, the Asia Pacific Virtual Convention packed a lot into a few hours.

Coming Up: Global Convention

My sincere thanks to the many employees who worked so hard to make this virtual event such a success. But there’s nothing quite like being at a USANA event in person. I’m thrilled that we’re planning to return to an in-person event for our 30th Anniversary Global Convention in August.

And I hope you make plans to join the rest of the USANA Family as we look back on our first 30 years and look ahead to the next.

Since 1992: USANA Celebrates 30 Years

It doesn’t seem that long ago that USANA celebrated its 20-year anniversary. And then came 25 (and with it, a world record). Now, as we enter 2022, USANA is poised to set a mark that relatively few companies attain. Oh, what a difference USANA’s made in its first 30 years.

Here’s a short trip down memory lane…

Since 1992, USANA’s vowed to create The Healthiest Family on Earth. It started with Dr. Wentz’s vision and now envelopes everything we do in two dozen markets around the world.

As we approached 30 years, I’ve expressed my gratitude for what the USANA Family’s accomplished in its first three decades. But, even as someone who’s been fortunate to work with USANA since Day 1, I’m especially excited about what the next 30 years—and more—entail.

30 Years: A Big Milestone

USANA Founder Dr. Myron Wentz

As I mentioned in an interview on the Driven with David Mulham video podcast, there aren’t many companies that get the opportunity to turn 30. It’s been a privilege and a blessing for me to watch the company grow.

What started as a microbiologist’s idea is now a global enterprise. Right now, I truly see the vision of creating The Healthiest Family on Earth happening.

The positive difference we’re making around the world is incredible. Our worldwide team of dedicated health professionals is helping so many individuals. And The USANA Foundation is bringing much-needed access to quality nutrition across the globe.

Living a healthy lifestyle, I believe, is critical to happiness. This notion of health is so much more than what we put into our body. It’s also what we feed our mind and our soul. USANA, therefore, is in an endless pursuit of health in all aspects of life.

I’m excited for what the future holds, and I’m grateful that you’re joining me on this year-long journey to celebrate 30 years of USANA.

We Are USANA: A Virtual Asia Pacific Convention

A throwback to a campaign nearly a decade ago.

A throwback to a campaign from nearly a decade ago.

Tested. Proven. We Are USANA. Longtime friends of USANA might remember that campaign. It served as a rallying cry for a company built on science-based nutrition.

At the time, we were preparing for USANA’s 20th anniversary the following year. A few years ago, we composed a theme song.

More recently, we created this video that builds on the same idea. As it proclaims: We are science, nutrition, athletes, philanthropy, and more.

Nearly a decade later, the “We Are USANA” mantra continues to remind us that we are a global family — one that’s striving to be The Healthiest Family on Earth.

So when a global pandemic required us to cancel our in-person Asia Pacific Convention earlier this year, we turned once again to a familiar refrain.

USANA Studios orchestrated a six-part “We Are USANA” video series designed to educate, entertain, and demonstrate who we are. You can watch my segment in Episode 3. In it, I also discuss a book that I continue to re-read and get a lot out of.

I hope you’ve had a chance to watch all the episodes. If not, I invite you to do so now. Each is available on YouTube. Or, you’re able to watch the entire series on my Facebook Page.

As our lives continue to be impacted, I sincerely hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.

It’s the People You Meet

A jingle from a lifetime ago about people popped into my head the other day.

Oh, who are the people in your neighborhood?
In your neighborhood?
In your neighborhood?

Well, they’re the people that you meet
When you’re walking down the street
They’re the people that you meet each day.

That’s right — Sesame Street. It’s a song that introduces children to a variety of people and professions.

Meeting with members of the media in Beijing.

Meeting with members of the media in Beijing.

As you might know, I’ve been traveling non-stop since the first of the year. If you’re following me on social media, you’ve seen me post pictures from Taiwan, Beijing, and Korea. I’ve spent time in New York and Chicago, and now I’m home in Salt Lake for a few days.

A selfie with some of the people I met in Taiwan in January 2020.

A selfie with some of the people I met in Taiwan in January 2020.

Though they live outside my literal neighborhood, I’ve been thinking about the hundreds — possibly thousands — of people I’ve met over the last three weeks.

The people I’ve met.

Yes, many were familiar faces. But a lot were friendly strangers I met for the first time. It’s amazing how much I’ve learned from them — about their diverse cultures, their expertise in all aspects of life, and how they’re going about achieving their goals and aspirations.

Throughout the trip, I’ve spoken frequently about the value of emotional intelligence. How we connect with people “in their space,” so to speak. It’s what experts say distinguishes great leaders from good ones. Researchers have boiled emotional intelligence down to five key components, one of which is empathy.

Empathetic people are skilled at attracting and retaining talent, they have an ability to develop others, and they possess a sensitivity to cross-cultural differences.

Doesn’t that sound like the kind of person you’d like to be? It’s the kind of person I strive to be.

If you read my blog post from earlier this month, I spoke about kindness and how we each should try to be a little kinder to one another in 2020. Well, as I’ve traveled all over the world and experienced all sorts of cultures, I’m impressed by the people I’ve met — in terms of kindness and empathy.

It’s the people we meet each day that could have a major effect on our lives (and us on theirs). It’s the emotional intelligence we demonstrate in these everyday interactions that will have a lasting impact.

Here are a few more pictures from my recent travels. Thank you all for making me feel so welcome wherever I go.
So grateful for the individuals who attended my book signing in Taiwan.

USANA Happenings

Kevin Guest - Skydiving in Dubai during the Americas/Europe USANA Growth tripEach month or so I like to touch on a variety of topics or events pertinent to the USANA Family. In this episode, I share a few thoughts on:

2019 USANA Live

Two words: Extreme success. The energy at the 2019 USANA International Convention proved to be off the charts.

We’re seeing momentum build and pick up in our markets around the world as a result of some of the promotions that we launched. Most importantly, we’re expanding and furthering our vision to be The Healthiest Family on Earth.

Americas/Europe Growth Trip

I experienced two “firsts” on our recent trip to Dubai with USANA’s top growers from the Americas and Europe. The first “first”: riding a camel. And the second “first” you probably saw on social media. I jumped out of a perfectly good airplane.

It was exhilarating and fun. It helped me overcome a fear of mine and have a unique experience. I’m so glad I did it with some of our USANA friends.

Most importantly, on these kinds of trips, I get to connect with our distributor base in a different way. It’s very much an opportunity for me one-on-one to meet with those who are really working hard and growing their business

Upcoming Travels

It looks like I’ll be packing my bags three more times before the end of 2019. I’m visiting Macau for the China convention. And then I travel to Mexico for a leadership summit event. Finally, I head to Washington D.C. for Direct Selling Association board and planning meetings.

It’s a busy few months, but I’m looking forward to it. There’s still a lot to do and accomplish. Even more, this is the time of year when we as a USANA management team conduct our strategic planning for the next 12 to 18 months.

Thank You

I can’t thank each of you enough for following along, reading this blog, and watching my video messages. I truly believe I’m in the people business, and without you, I wouldn’t be who I am.

The Gig Economy and USANA

Are you familiar with the term The Gig Economy? At its core, it’s based on large numbers of people working temporary, part-time, or contract positions.

In my mind, as a longtime musician, “gigs” were paying jobs we got to supplement other income. I secured my first musical “gig” in the eighth grade and have been a professional musician ever since.

Earlier this summer, I visited Austin, Texas, for the Direct Selling Association Annual Meeting. I spent a lot of time with other CEOs and leaders in our direct selling space. We talked — many times for hours — about company challenges we’re facing.

Most of our peers are facing some of the very same issues that we face at USANA.

The Gig Economy

One topic that kept coming up over and over is the “gig economy.” I share some thoughts about this notion in the video below:

View the video on YouTube

“The gig economy is very broad, and encompasses workers who are full-time independent contractors (consultants, for example) to people who moonlight by driving for Uber or Lyft several hours a week.” — John Frazer, Forbes

The independent-contractor workforce includes about 150 million people in North America and Western Europe, according to the Harvard Business Review. But what about people who want to earn extra income part-time, temporarily, or on the side? That’s a market space that seems to be growing, especially in the United States.

At USANA, we’ve excelled for 27 years in asking people to fire their boss and make USANA a career. Many have done that, and USANA continues to be a great opportunity for a full-time career.

But what if you simply want to earn a little extra money on the side of your existing career? It’s a trend, and we at USANA are looking at ways to help make it easier for individuals who are interested in that approach.

Strategically, it’s something we at USANA have to take seriously.

Looking Ahead

We’re starting to look at promotions, incentives, and various compensation plan enhancements that help to provide more immediate gratification.

So, that’s something that’s on my mind. I wanted to let you in on it so you could think about it, too. Please feel free to share your thoughts on the “gig economy” when you interact with us at USANA.

We’re constantly evolving at USANA. I’m excited for where we’re headed as a company and this is another opportunity for us to grow.
